Prices in Zanzibar (Tanzania): USD levels & what moves them
One line first: nothing on Zanzibar is posted. The informal market quotes 100,000–250,000 TZS for short time (roughly USD 40–100, duration unspecified), a September 2026 escort rate card prints hour tiers from 100,000 TZS standard / 200,000 VIP and nights from 250,000 / 500,000, and the island's one fixed-price night out — the Kendwa Rocks Full Moon Party — charges 35,000–40,000 TZS at the door with cashless bars inside.

The rate card and the street, 2026
The printed tiers come from a Tanzanian escort card dated 6 September 2026: one hour ("huduma fupi", the short service) from 100,000 TZS with VIP from 200,000; the whole night ("usiku kucha") from 250,000 with VIP from 500,000; weekend and safari bookings by private arrangement. The card names its geography too: a discreet Stone Town spa hotel and a Nungwi beach hotel as meeting points, out-call across Mbweni, Paje, Jambiani and Kendwa. Treat it as one operator's price list rather than a market average — and note what the catalog side shows: nine Zanzibar profiles with $0 placeholders where prices should be. The surrounding informal quotes (100,000–250,000 TZS at August 2026 counts, Dar es Salaam clusters included) are both the floor and the ceiling of what readers actually report paying.
The Kendwa card: the island's only fixed prices
Kendwa Rocks' Full Moon Party is where Zanzibar prints numbers. The door cover is 35,000–40,000 TZS, free for hotel guests with ID, with early-bird tickets online below the door price. Inside runs fully prepaid: a resort card with a deposit around 2,000 TZS and top-ups from 10,000, and the bars refuse cash even for hotel residents, so watch the balance. Cocktails run about EUR 5–6 with beer cheaper; the 15-minute taxi from Nungwi costs around 15,000 TZS (about EUR 5), and much of the crowd walks home along the sand instead. For scale: the same door cost 20,000 TZS (about USD 9) in 2018 — the party has nearly doubled its cover while the informal market around it stays unposted.

How we get these numbers
- Every figure is a range from many independent reports — never one guy’s story.
- Prices enter the database with a source date and remain available as they age.
- The same segment is tracked district by district — the spread between areas is often the real story.
- Dollar amounts are rounded on purpose (rate date below): enough to plan and compare cities — the exact, dated local figures come when you ask.
What moves prices here
- The unposted market — quotes move with negotiation and nothing is fixed: the same encounter can land anywhere in the 100,000–250,000 TZS band.
- The VIP double — the card's VIP tier is exactly twice standard on both formats: 200,000 against 100,000 the hour, 500,000 against 250,000 the night.
- The romance wrapper — much of this market is romance-based, so the price hides inside dinners, drinks and invented emergencies rather than a negotiated fee.
- The party floor — Full Moon entry has climbed from 20,000 TZS in 2018 to 35,000–40,000 at the 2026 door, and inside even the tips go cashless.
